Gelled Lighting Photography & Post Production Workshop
Jake Hicks |
Jake is a full-time professional photographer specialized in bright, bold and highly saturated fashion and edited imagery.
Having been a freelance photo-grapher for over a decade, Jake has been fortunate enough to be involved with some very varied and influential clients. They have chosen him to represent their companies image and ideals because his work is always about ensuring a progressive aesthetic to any given campaign, with his results always standing out for the right reasons Being technically very proficient, and with a strong background in the pre-digital era of photography, his ability to capture dynamic visuals ‘in-camera’ without the need to rely on heavy post-production and photo manipulation has always made Jake far more adaptable on shoot day. It is for this reason that he has been the preferred choice for those clients who want to remain part of the creative process from start to finish. That being said, when the need arises and a job requires efficiency and trust to ensure a shoot can be turned around quickly, being extremely proficient in all modern imaging software is a must, enabling Jake to remain dynamic and flexible to any last minute changes. |
PROGRAM (Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th November 2018):
DAY 1 : Gelled Lighting Photography
If you've ever tried shooting with coloured gels in the past and have been less than impressed with the washed-out and lifeless colours, then this Coloured Gels Workshop is for you.
It's fair to say that Jakes work is predominantly known for it's bold use of colour and movement and one of the reasons this workshop has become so popular over the years is because that colour and saturation is all created in-camera with coloured lighting alone.
So if you're looking to add something a little different to your arsenal of lighting skills, or maybe you're simply looking to offer something more engaging and alternative to your clients, this could be the lighting workshop for you.
During the course there will be plenty of time for hands-on shooting for everybody. On the first day of this two-day workshop Jake will be explaining in detail some of his most popular and sought after coloured lighting techniques.
We'll start off by looking at how we can add interest with colour to your standard studio lighting shots, then we'll be covering strong edge lighting techniques with gels and then finish up with a setup which involves a highly saturated colour wash. Throughout the day Jake will encouraging everybody to ask questions and he will be covering how to overcome some of the classic pitfalls usually encountered with gelled lighting.
DAY 2 : Post Production
t's no secret that Jake likes to take the occasional gelled lighting shot and yes he will be taking everybody through his editorial workflow on a gelled lighting image, BUT those skills are certainly applicable to all types of portraits. In fact in the morning of the workshop Jake will also cover his Lightroom and Photoshop techniques on how to effectively manage large quantities of files from either a portrait shoot or a wedding day.
There will be times when you want to show your clients a lot of 'proof' files and want to make sure those shots look good but not spend too much time on them if they aren't going to select them later. Jake goes over techniques and give you all of his Photoshop actions that mean you can get a great looking proof file ready for your client in under 10 seconds!
For those interested in a more in-depth look at his retouching techniques don't worry. Jake will be spending the afternoon going through his high-end post-pro walkthrough step-by-step where everybody can follow along and ask questions specific to their needs as we go.
So join me as Jake goes through his complete professional workflow from Raw to Lightroom to Photoshop to learn how to maximise and realise the full potential of your raw files.
Some of the topics covered on the day will be:
- Advanced colour management in Lightroom
- Working with large numbers of client proof files
- Professional skin retouching in Photoshop
- Local and global sharpening
- Dodging & Burning with colours
- Colour toning and a lot more.
Everything in Jakes digital process will be explained step-by-step, no secrets will be held back and there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions specific to your own digital workflow needs as we go along.
Everybody on the day will walk away with:
- 15 of Jakes Photoshop Actions
- Over 30 of his exclusive Lightroom Presets
- Plus a 50 page PDF of the course notes
All attendees will also receive the entire course notes of everything taught on the day in over 50 pages of comprehensive PDF notes. That way you won't miss a thing because you're furiously scribbling down notes.
